This doesn’t sound good in the business world, but I believe this is a good approach. In engineering school I was taught to devote the majority of my time to thinking about how I would tackle a problem and then to spend a relatively small amount of time actually executing the solution. In business, initiative or a “preference for action” is highly regarded because it shows you are doing things. But if people focused their time on getting things right more than getting things done on time and mostly right, there would be efficiencies realized down the road that would be far greater than the instant gratification of getting things done ASAP.But the harsh reality is, time is often a luxury businesses just don’t have.
