My personal favorite from the legal response: Only an abject imbecile could believe that the domain name would have any connection to the Complainant.

Personally I am not a fan of using base 10 for these types of calculations, it is so natural to simply use base 2. This is one battle the marketing team obviously won.

PC World: Multitasking Is a Big Fat Lie  →
Multitasking, as most people understand it, is a myth that has been promulgated by the “technological-industrial complex” to make overly scheduled and stressed-out people feel productive and efficient.

Mohammed cartoonist to speak at Yale →
Wow I didn’t realize how long ago this was but it was back in 2005 that Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard created an inflammatory violence-inciting depiction of Mohammed with a bomb on his turban. Fast forward to 2009, Yale University is publishing a book entitled “The Cartoons That Shook The World”. Now the interesting part is that the controversial cartoon was omitted due to...

The simplest way to concatenate text files in DOS
In the scenario below the assumption is that you’re concatenating all the files in a directory into a CSV file. This isn’t the only possible output and I’m just using this as an example. copy * output.csv And that’s it, no for loops or other silliness, it just copies everything together into one file.

Wow this is an extremely fascinating story. Had it not been for Ataturk he would be ruling the Ottoman Empire. The crazy part is that he was living in a rent-controlled walk-up in the Upper East Side!

You used to be the King Palm, now you’re just pathetic. Just stop it and fade into obscurity where you belong. You don’t deserve the market share because you’re not a leader anymore.

Neuromarketing - It's like we're in the future →
If marketing is regarded by many as “evil” where does this lie in the spectrum of evilness? I’ve been aware of research that involves eyetracking but this sounds to me like another level entirely. More on this topic here: http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2009/09/neurocinema-aims-to-change-the-way-movies-are-made/

MetroCost, an app for iPhone or iPod touch →
If you’re the type of person that’s into tracking their personal spending and use services like mint.com then you may appreciate an iPhone/iPod Touch application that can help you sort out which is the better deal, the pay per ride or unlimited MetroCard. I’m a pay per rider myself but I do wonder if switching to unlimited is the better deal.

If You Need to Work Better, Maybe Try Working Less →
I like an article that challenges the convention of “because that’s the way it is”. There are a lot of things we do “because that’s the way it is” and we should always questions our behavior, tactics, perceived efficiencies, whatever. I see too many people working until 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, or later only to have a one hour to 90 minute commute that all but...

Imagine a world where musicians get paid for 30... →
Ars Technica discusses the possibility of extra licensing fees to be added to downloaded music. Among other things it would include a royalty to be paid for 30 second song previews heard in iTunes. If you don’t use iTunes, this essentially allows you to “try before you buy” allowing you to hear a clip of the song before you plop down your hard earned 99 cents (or more). Is it...
